Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026What stays on your iPhone
- Screens you translate. The image, the text Hanzi reads from it and the translation are processed on your device by Apple's Vision and Translation frameworks. They are never uploaded by Hanzi.
- Your recent translation. Hanzi may keep your last result on the device so it can show it again quickly. Screens that look sensitive (for example verification codes or bank account numbers) are not kept.
- Setup and plan state. Small settings (whether setup is done, how many free translations you used) are stored on your device and in your device's Keychain.
Purchases
Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by Apple. Hanzi uses RevenueCat, Inc. to validate purchases and restore them. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase history for Hanzi and basic device information needed to validate receipts. It never receives your screens or text. See RevenueCat's privacy policy. Hanzi does not see your name, email or payment details.
Anonymous usage statistics
From version 1.0.2, Hanzi can send anonymous usage statistics so we can see where setup breaks and fix it. The welcome screen says so and offers Don't share; you can turn it on or off at any time in Hanzi › Settings › Privacy › Share anonymous usage stats. If you had Hanzi before 1.0.2, it stays off unless you turn it on.
- What is sent: which setup step you reached, whether the shortcut and the floating button are set, whether a translation worked and how long it took, whether the plans screen was shown and whether a purchase was started or completed, plus the app version, iOS version and your device's time zone.
- What is never sent: your screens, any text read or translated, the name of the app you were translating, your name, email, Apple ID or advertising identifier.
- How: events carry a random identifier created on your device that is not linked to your purchases or to anything else. They are stored by PostHog, Inc. (United States) with location lookup from IP address disabled and no user profile. See PostHog's privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No accounts, no sign-in.
- No advertising and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
Children
Hanzi is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Your choices
You can delete everything Hanzi stores by deleting the app. Turn usage statistics off in Hanzi › Settings › Privacy. Manage or cancel subscriptions in Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
